Music at Merchants – week of 29th June

June 30, 2015

hippies 1971

Come and feel the breeze from our Tannoy Westminsters this week as the music plays on at Merchants Tavern

Chris Coco (Melodica) brings the balearic bliss in bucketloads on Thursday night. If you haven’t been enjoying his recent release, your summer may be lacking the appropriate soundtrack

Rik Moran (tothebone) returns to Spiritland with a bag of slo-mo bangers this Friday night. Whether you’re post-work or pre-party, his mix of groovy rock, chugging funk and emotional pop never fails to hit the spot

Shepdog (Nice Up!) is best known for his raucous reggae-tinged sets, flitting from dub to dubstep – but on his trips to Merchants Tavern, he shows us his sensitive side with funky folk, tender soul and some swinging jazz for good measure

On Sunday afternoon,  Mark Greenfield (Los Desterrados) is your captain for a trip down to the marina for a yacht rock, fusion and the socially acceptable end of prog

Music at Merchants – week of 22nd June

June 22, 2015

Come and feel smug/drink away your sorrows* about not being at Glastonbury this week in the company of a clutch of great DJs at Merchant Tavern. They’ll be playing music for the soul on our towering Tannoy Westminster speakers

We’re delighted to welcome back Kirk Degiorgio (Machine/RBMA) on Thursday night from 6.30pm. Globally known for his forward-thinking techno productions, and his pioneering approach to digital DJing, he’ll be playing a substantially more relaxed and jazzy selection on a rare trip to Merchants Tavern

Dave Stenton and Charlie Bennett (tothebone) take control on Friday night. African rhythms, deep disco and freaky electronica are the order of the day. For a taste of their sound, head to their tothebone radio show along with Merchants regular Rik Moran

On Saturday afternoon, come along and while away the afternoon in the company of Mach V (Echaskech) – DJ, VJ and self-described know-it-all, he’ll be playing lush electronica and folky meanderings from 2pm onwards

Saturday night finds Dan Bean (bleep43/i-ality Soundsystem) behind the turntables. Vinyl collector, DJ, part of the electronic party crew bleep43, Dan has the nuance and sensitivity of only a few DJs. Come and hear him play dub, afro, jazz and disco on our sound system

Toby Tobias, lays down the law on Friday night from 6.30pm – playing deep disco, exotic funk and chuggy goodness, pitched down from his usual dancefloor tempo

Mach V is on musical duties on Saturday afternoon, playing the widest range of deep electronic and acoustic music from 2pm onwards

Summer appears to be here, and we’re in the mood to break out 0ur sandy plimsolls and pander our sun-kissed musical leanings. Here’s what this week is looking like at Merchants Tavern:

Thursday night finds Peepshow Paddy behind the turntables. Usually spotted working a crowd to perfection with his Disco Shed crew (gnomes come as standard) he’s joining us for a Thursday night of immaculately picked soul, funk and beat-heavy disco experiments

Friday night sees the welcome return of Graham Erickson – tastemaker, style authority and record collector to the great and the good with a hearty selection of tropical funk and freaky pop

Saturday afternoon we take a walk along the Marina in the company of Mark Greenfield. Yacht rocking beats are in abundance as he eases things along for the lunchtime crowd from 2pm onwards

On Saturday night we welcome David Sacks and Francis Redman, also known as The Running playing on our system. Expect the very broadest range of music from deep jazz to Highlife from 6.30pm. Headbands and shorts not essential but recommended
