This week at Merchants Tavern we have launched a new lunch menu.
Dishes on the new menu from Neil range from sandwiches and light salads, to bowls of pasta, pies and a hearty steak. Pop by for a quick bite and a sharpener or settle in with a bottle of our wine of the week for a more leisurely lunch.
Seasonal highlights for this week include a Pappardelle with peas, broad beans & crème fraiche and a Chicken & pork pie with greens, girolles & creamed potato. Dessert wise Neil’s Lemon meringue pie is a must.

If you follow the Merchants Tavern you will already know we champion the best of the seasons produce and this week Neil’s rustled up something special using the intriguingly named elephant garlic….
Elephant garlic – deceptively like a plump garlic in appearance is actually a relative of the garden leek. Suited to wet conditions, elephant garlic is right at home here in Britain where it comes into season in July. The flavour, more akin to garlic than a leek, but sweeter and milder, makes it great for roasting or using raw in salads.
This week Neil is puréeing elephant garlic to serve with roast chicken, girolles, corn and monk’s beard on our a la carte.
Full of summer flavours we’ll be enjoying it with a chilled glass of Vermentino.
