A Look Back: 5 Chefs 5 Nights

July 24, 2017

June 2017 was the first ever Evening Standard London Food Month, Angela was named as the festival food hero this year which saw her darting all over London hosting a variety of events throughout the whole month. When she asked us at the Tavern if we wanted to host a week long event to celebrate the best of British cooking with the best line up of UK chefs how could we say no?!

Our event was 5 chefs 5 nights, and as the name suggest Neil got his mates who all happen to be 5 of the top UK chefs to take over our kitchen for a week. Tom Kitchin, Gary Usher, Mitch Tonks, Tom Kerridge & Stephen Terry all came in for one night guest  each and cooked the most amazing meals for our lucky guests. The atmosphere in the dining room was electric and if you didn’t manage to grab a ticket you can  watch the highlights over on our YouTube channel.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, we were happy to see familiar faces and new fans of  the Tavern!

Wine Club July: 1701 Franciacorta

Tonight’s the night we learn a little more about Italian sparkling wine at the Tavern. Move over Prosecco and make way for something a little closer to Champagne. We’re joined by brother & sister duo Federico & Silvia Stefini – the wine makers from 1701 Franciacorta who will be in the bar offering tastings of their delicious biodynamic wines from 6.30pm.

Franciacorta is a lesser known Italian sparkling wine made, in the same way as Champagne, exclusively with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

The story of 1701 is a project created by brother & sister Federico and Silvia Stefini, who six years ago took over one of the oldest wine properties of Franciacorta. With over 300 years of history & framed by the walls of an 11th century villa,  it’s guided by a passionate group of young entrepreneurs who wish to discover their link to ancient methods of farming.

We have two wines available for you to try:

2014 Sullerba, 1701, Cazzago San Martino, Franciacorta, Italy.
12.5cl £11.00 75cl £55.00
100% Chardonnay – Fresh, light with flavours of white peach & mature citrus notes.

NV Franciacorta Rose DOCG, 1701, Cazzago San Martino, Italy.
12.5cl £14.00 75cl £75.00
100% Pinot Noir – Intense yet elegant with dominant notes of small red fruits. Fresh and delicate.
