October 10, 2017

There is not much in the world that is more comforting than homemade Apple tart.

Neil’s addition of brambles and flaked almonds add a bit of tartness and texture to create a dessert that will keep you coming back for more. On the menu from today, treat yourself to a slice of tart served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.

Paris-Brest

August 29, 2017

With autumn on the horizon, as a keen cyclist, Neil has been taking trips out to Box Hill and all around Surrey. While on one of these trips he started turning his mind to pastries, as most cyclists do, and that got him thinking about the Paris-Brest, an aptly named French classic of choux pastry, praline cream & chocolate sauce.

The round pastry represents the wheel of bike and became very popular with riders who took part in the Paris-Brest-Paris cycle race.

Suitably inspired Neil has created a version for the dessert menu starting this week.

Muscat Grapes

August 14, 2017

This month, inspired by the French classic Sole Veronique, Neil is using French Muscat grapes in a summery hake dish. Neil first cooked with these grapes when he was at The Square and loves their delicately perfumed flavour.

Neil is baking the hake with sea herbs and adding the Muscat grapes to provide a sharp, sweet contrast to the dish. New on the menu from today the dish looks set to be a Merchants favourite.

A Look Back: 5 Chefs 5 Nights

July 24, 2017

June 2017 was the first ever Evening Standard London Food Month, Angela was named as the festival food hero this year which saw her darting all over London hosting a variety of events throughout the whole month. When she asked us at the Tavern if we wanted to host a week long event to celebrate the best of British cooking with the best line up of UK chefs how could we say no?!

Our event was 5 chefs 5 nights, and as the name suggest Neil got his mates who all happen to be 5 of the top UK chefs to take over our kitchen for a week. Tom Kitchin, Gary Usher, Mitch Tonks, Tom Kerridge & Stephen Terry all came in for one night guest  each and cooked the most amazing meals for our lucky guests. The atmosphere in the dining room was electric and if you didn’t manage to grab a ticket you can  watch the highlights over on our YouTube channel.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, we were happy to see familiar faces and new fans of  the Tavern!
