We love our Shoreditch neighbourhood so each month we’re turning the spotlight over to them; whether it be a Merchants regular or a local supplier, artist, musician, or entrepreneur.

In the Spotlight this month is Shoreditch local, Art & Fashion Curator Ryan Lanji.
Ryan splits his time between his curating work (most recently curating fashion exhibition Conservation Couture at the V&A) and his role as Creative Direction and Marketing Manager at Body Studio – a personal training space on nearby Rivington Street. Here are Ryan tips for day and night culture in Shoreditch:

Tipple of choice:

A Negroni. I could only describe it as sartorial because much like a suit attention to detail and measure must be paid. Also it’s the tipple of choice for Founder/Director Margaret Pope and I after a busy day at Body Studio.

Brunch or Lunch:

I think one should eat to live and not live to eat, so I suggest eating something every two hours regardless of what you call it and always make sure you make an event of it.

Cab, Uber, TFL or Cycle:

I like to walk everywhere (especially in Shoreditch) it’s a brilliant area full of history, independent shops and notable restaurants. I think it’s important to walk and discover (even taking a different path to work everyday can be full of discovery) but if one is late, Uber is my transport of choice.

Insiders tip:

Art openings are the best way to get tipsy for free and always know shortcuts when the markets are in full swing on the weekends.

Late night London:

Metropolis has managed to capture the zeitgeist of the gay scene and has some amazing nights on held by Jodie Harsh and Louie Banks.

Shoreditch soundtrack:

The song that gets me through the day at the moment is a special one discovered with a friend and eradicates any sense of stress in such a bustling city: Tezeta (Nostalgia) by Mulatu Astatke. If you’re looking for something to kick start the party it’s definitely Just Say by KDA Ft. Tinashe at the moment.

We love our Shoreditch neighbourhood so each month we’re turning the spotlight over to them; whether it be a Merchants regular or a local supplier, artist, musician, or entrepreneur.

In the Spotlight this month is Shoreditch local Alex Outlaw, CMO and Co-Founder at TheIdleMan.com, a new menswear retailer based just off Brick Lane. Alex has lived in Shoreditch for around 6 years and for him the best the the buzz with a new store, restaurant or cool bar opening every week. Here’s Alex’s Shoreditch tips:

Tipple of choice

Head down to Brew Dog on Bethnal Green Road for a pint of Punk Ipa.

Brunch or Lunch

It has to be brunch as I’m not a big eater first thing in the morning and it’s a great excuse to start the party early.

Insiders tip

If you are looking for some flowers head down to Columbia Road around 2:30 and grab yourself a bargain, they sell a lot of the stuff off cheap at the end of the day.

Big night out

Hackney Wick is a great place at the moment with loads of cool stuff from Crate Brewery, Grow and Number 90 to name a few…

Shoreditch soundtrack

I went to see the Oasis documentary the other day at the Richmix, so their greatest hits is on constant replay right now.
